Octathalon Cup Entry details

There are several ways you can enter this years Cup event in order to gain one of 40 places for the men’s event, 16 places for the women’s event and 8 womens and 8 men’s pairs event places.

MENS CUP EVENT

The Men’s Cup event is a four lane knock out event with the first two places going though to the next round. Within this event, there is also a Masters event, where the Masters will win based on the fastest time that they can do. If they go through to the next rounds they get a chance to better their times.

NEW

This year there will be ten first rounds with the first two places going through to the quarterfinals. The third place will get automatic entry into the Club event.

The 5 quarterfinals will have the first place going though to the Semi finals as well as the three fastest losers.

All the previous years finalists are seeded and have guaranteed places. They need to confirm their place by completing an application form and entry fee by the end of May. If these are not received on time, the places will be given to others. The three top masters in the previous year are guaranteed places and will also have to complete and send off an application form and entry fee by the end of May. The WOA has some wildcards this year that it can use if it wants to offer them to unique individuals to enter. This year there will be 16 entry places that are open to everyone on a first come first served basis. All you need to do is to send of a completed application form along with entry fee and you will be guaranteed an entry. If you have sent off your entry fee and do not manage to gain entry this way, you may gain entry under the next basis. If you are unlucky this way too, you have a choice on the application form to be entered in the Club event. Should this not be suitable, we will refund your entry to you and wish you the best of luck entering next year. The remaining places will be decided on a basis of best submitted times. For those of you who have already done the event, you can submit that time. If you have subsequently done a faster time, you will need to have a gym instructor sign to verify and validate your time like the other entrants. If your are unlucky this way too, you have a choice on the form to be entered in the Club event. Should this not be suitable, we will refund your entry to you and wish you the best of luck entering next year. The deadline for entry into the competition this way is the end of June. Of these remaining places 5 will be guaranteed for those in the Masters category.

The Club Octathalon Event

This event is run over the Club course and, unlike the knockout Cup Octathalon, it is in a time trial format, however the fastest 4 men & women will race again at the end of the day in a final to find out who wins.

MEDALS FOR TARGET TIMES

There will be gold, silver and bronze medals for everyone who achieves certain levels of times for the course. These time targets will be set once we have all the entries in.

There are limited entries to this event due to the maximum number of races that can be held on the day and the fact that we are only running 4 lanes. Because of that we will be accepting entries on a first come first served basis for both the pairs and the individual event. There is no mixed pairs, it is just two males in a pair and two females in a pair and each member must do 4 of the 8 exercises but they can choose which person can do which exercise. We will also be holding a few wild card entries for this event as well.

CUP PAIRS EVENT

The Men’s pairs CUP event is a county competition where you must race with someone else who lives in that same county with yourself. It is a knockout competition with a semi final and a final and two to go through. Each person in the pair must do 4 of the 8 exercises but you can each select which ones to do.

To enter into this event you will need to submit a time for the course validated by an official from your gym. You can alternatively submit a previous time for the course from when the two of you raced either in the 2006 or 2005 event. The winning team from 2006 is guaranteed a place as long as they confirm entry by the end of May with a completed entry form and entry fee. The remaining 7 places will be decided upon by submitted times. Only one entry per county will be allowed and the fastest time submitted from a pair in that county will be selected. In the event of insufficient entries in by the end of June deadline, second teams from a county will be entered on a fastest time basis. For all unsuccessful entrants, you have a choice to be entered into the club pairs event on the Saturday. If you decide not to do that event, you will have your entry fee sent back to you.

WOMENS CUP EVENT

The Women’s Cup event is a four lane knock out event with the first two places going though to the next round. There will be an extra prize for the top women’s masters time although there is no category for this and no special entry conditions for those of masters age.

CLUB PAIRS EVENT

The Club pairs event can only be entered by people who are both members of the same club and they must enter under their clubs name. Both entrants must have been members of their club for at least 3 months. There are no limits on pairs from the same club entering.

The last entry for this event is the end of June unless all the places are filled beforehand. If that is the case will be refund your entry fee.

If you are entering the Cup course as an individual, you cannot enter the Club course and vice versa, however if you are entering either the Cup or Club course in a pair, you can enter the alternative course as an individual. For example, this will mean you could enter the Cup course in a pair on the Sunday, having done the individual Club course on the Saturday.

It is also worth mentioning that there are no restrictions to enter this event, it is open to everyone.

There will be cups & medals and cash prizes in additions to some sponsors prizes of which we hope to have more details soon.

To enter you will need to send in a completed application form that must include a time estimate for the club course, based on a time you have done in your gym, and the entry fee. The time estimate is so that we can set you off in lanes with people who are of a similar standard to yourself and also to ensure that the gap between the races does not lead to people being caught up on the course.
