LOCAL EVENTS

All Clubs with a licensed Octathalon trainer are encourage to organise Octathalon competitions with other local clubs in their area. There are many advantages to a club and a trainer in doing this.

BENEFITS TO CLUB MEMBERS

1. An event creates a training focus and can give someone added motivation to train and to get fitter.

2. An event where everyone can contribute because of the scoring system and irrespective of their level of fitness, it is great for the club atmosphere and spirit.

3. Home and away matches will engender a club spirit with supporters as well as give you the added benefit of meeting more like minded people who you can discuss common areas of communication with.

BENEFITS TO THE CLUB

1. With more members taking part in internal Octathalon events, you will build club spirit as well as be seen to offer more attractions to your members. In addition to that, no license is needed from the WOA to run your own internal octathalon events

2. With Home and Away matches, it provides easy media information for your local newspapers to cover and that will bring greater column inches to promote your club and its activities. This will lead to greater enquiries from new members. To run Octathalon events with teams and individuals competing between clubs, you will need to have an Octathalon License. Please contact us for details.

3. With a team of supremely fit Octathaletes representing your club at national and international level, your brand image can be promoted onto a larger screen than just through the local media.

BENEFITS TO THE OCTATHALON TRAINER

1. The more people doing the Octathalon in your club, the more people that will be looking to do your Octathalon classes. Some of them will also want to go on to do more one to one work with you to get an edge over their competitors.

2. Home and away matches will create greater local awareness of the coaches behind the winning teams and as the handicap event is won by the team that has improved their times the most, the Octathalon trainer can take alot of the credit. This further values your work and the good trainers will attract more people to your club in order to gain from your services.

TEAM EVENT

In order to enter a team for an event, you will need to abide by the following rules. Clubs compete in teams of 5 people.

For 5 people

  1. All must do the club course.
  2. 1 Woman and 4 Men in a team and they must be members of the club they represent..
  3. All Individuals from all teams must do the full Club course.
  4. Final placings, not times, will determine the winning team.

For 10 people

1. 2 people to do the Cup course, 8 people to do the Club course.
2. Minimum 3 and Maximum 5 women per team.
3. Minimum 1 and Maximum 4 masters per team. (Over 39)

Each team will compete in a Home and an Away match. In the event of an individual not managing to do both matches, reserve members can be brought in as long as they have been members of the club for at least 3 months and have an officially recognised handicap.

Only club members can represent their team and they must have been members for at least 3 months. The association reserves the right to change this rule in the future.

The Octathalon trainers in the clubs will be responsible for holding the events and selection and training of the teams.

HANDICAP EVENTS

Clubs can also elect to stage handicap events to make racing even fairer where the winners are those who have improved most in their training and who better their personal best times by more than the other team. Speak to you Octathalon Trainer for more details on these.

To get a handicap you must be a member of a club that has an Octathalon license and have posted a recognised time for the CUP or CLUB course. A recognised time is one that is done with an Octathalon trainer present. This for many will mean having done and completed an Induction class.

Every member can have two handicaps one for each course. Depending on the time you post for a course, you will receive a corresponding handicap.
